Zittau Theatre

Eagles > Building Eagles > Zittau Theatre

The Zittau Theater, located in Zittau, Germany, was completed and opened in 1936. It was designed by Adolf Hopp and built after the original municipal theater burned down in 1932. The new theater was inaugurated with National Socialist fanfare, reflecting the political climate of the time. It was originally named the “Grenzlandtheater Zittau” and is now part of the Gerhart-Hauptmann-Theater Görlitz-Zittau.

There were originally 2 large concrete or stone eagles attached to the facade that were removed post 1945. The images below show the before and after as well as some remnants of the eagles just after removal.
