Wooden wall plaques were solid timber (usually blackened oak) with the stylized eagle in the form of an attached metal eagle motif either bolted or nailed to the front and a hanging device on the rear. These wooden wall plaques were made by a variety of manufacturers and sold by distributing shops and outlets in a variety of sizes and styles. They were often sold with a blank plate attached to the front that could be engraved with a dedication if given as an award or to honor time served. On other occasions a dedication could commemorate an event or occasion. These plaques are typically found with a triangular wall hanging device at the rear but can sometimes also be found with a rear scoop or cut-out section reinforced with an iron or brass plate – particularly if the plaque is large and heavy.
