A large volume of wooden eagles were produced during the third reich era. Due to their material many were easily damaged or destroyed during or immediately post the war. Given the ability to easily reproduce or copy these eagles they can be harder to authenticate and many copies are passed off as original. There are some common, easy verified styles and many have makers marks or stamps fortunately making authenticating some easier.

A large number of “new” wooden eagles have appeared over the recent years. As is shown on the left, there are skilled woodworkers producing modern versions and passing these as originals. As such extra care should be taken when purchasing wooden eagles as authentication is harder due to the easier ability to reproduce.
