RP Mounts

Eagles > Reichspost Eagles > RP Mounts

The reverse side of the Reichspost eagles contain any makers marks as well as mounting points to attach the eagles to the vehicles. The Reichspost eagles have four raised screw points (in some examples only 3 are raised – the middle swastika one is not) to allow screws to attach the eagles securely. They do not have raised bolts or threads like the Reichsbahn eagles but instead have internally threaded points.

  • 4 Mounts – One internally threaded mount on each wing (Wing), one in the middle of the swastika (swastika) and one in the middle of the body (Middle).

Middle mounting position

The middle mounting point on the top of the body is raised with internal threading. There are examples of a round raised mount and examples of a raised square mount on a 45 degree angle.

Square (angled):

Wing and swastika mounting

The mounting points in the middle of the swastika and the wings are flat with internal threading.

Examples of some of the mounts are shown below:

Screws

The screw holes are added post the molding process. As the mounting screws are easily removable very few examples of original screws exist. Most were broken on removal or discarded once removed from the vehicles they were attached to. The example below shows the screws and bolts/washers used. As so few examples exist we can only speculate that all were attached with similar hardware.

A number of eagles have the two casting holes/injection marks left by the molding process – examples shown below. These are particularly visible on “V” eagles but not seen in other makers.
