In a number of the known examples, the inner area behind the swastika is often painted red to match the color of the buses or coaches it has been attached to. Aside from this standard paint work there are a number of variations:
- There are several period photos of Reichspost eagles and the associated lettering being completely painted the same color as the vehicle. In the collector community there are several painted examples, however it is not known if these were painted pre or post 1945.
- A common paint colours are camouflage green or black.
