Charles Dukes – Co. L, 413th Inf., 104th Timberwolf Div.
Charles was one of the last documented World War II POW’s to be repatriated at the end of the war. He reached Allied lines at the Elbe River on May 27, 1945, some 20 days after the official end of the war and after escaping from a Russian-controlled POW camp at Luckenwalde, Germany. Mr. Dukes is the author of, “Good Night -The Nightmares Never End”
This eagle was displayed in his museum but he sometimes took it with him along with other artifacts to the schools and shows he attended, tirelessly teaching the youngsters about the last days of the war and his experiences as an escaped POW. He was a true gentleman and a genuine ‘Hero’ to many.
