Example 1:

Size: Height 31 cm. Wing span 56 cm.

An example of a forged iron eagle wall chandelier, from the ceremonial hall of an SS service building The eagle was forged in several pieces and assembled with rivets. SS runes of hammered copper are screwed onto the breast. The breast feathers are indicated by incised lines, the legs are twisted, and the feet riveted to a curved bar, which supports three candle holders. It has a black patina surface. Presumably a work from the Wewelsburg Castle forge, which produced numerous artistic party eagles in the typical Wewelsburg style for SS and army buildings. Originally, three artisan smiths from the Dortmund Arts and Crafts School worked at the Wewelsburg. Later, the forge was run by SS-Hauptsturmfuhrer Brockmann and his collaborator, Emil Bielefeld.

Markings: Blacksmith’s monogram ‘C W’ above ‘1940’ on the reverse

An example of a wrought-iron national eagle, for a Wehrmacht building. It is forged with screws and rivets in several parts. The artistic forging technique results in a three-dimensional, relief with a lively impression. Presumably another work by the Burg-Schmiede Wewelsburg, which created numerous artistic national eagles in the typical Wewelsburg style for barracks of the SS and the army.
