Wall Speer 1

Eagles > Wall Eagles > Wall Speer 1

This eagle is said to be designed by Albert Speer and was attached to an entrance gate at Hitler’s personal retreat – the Berghof. The leaves of the wreath still have some of t he original green paint, and the remainder appears to have been unpainted. Four partial brackets – which once secured the piece to the iron gate – surround the wreath, though the back of each bracket is absent after it was cut from the gate by its captor. The reverse side of the eagle’s eye protrudes outwards, suggesting that the piece was somehow attached to the gate at this point as well. The eagle is also bowing outwards, also suggesting it was once displayed on the outer edge of a gate. The photo of the back gate of the Berghof mentions …two more such eagles in the Iron Works & Entrance Gates…’ and that the eagle was designed by Albert Speer.
