Repro KSE Desk

Misc > Fakes & Reproductions > Repro KSE Desk

There are three types of fake/ reproduction Kurt Schmid-Ehmen (KSE) Nuremberg eagles.

  1. Post war re-creations (estate casts) of the original KSE Nuremberg eagle authorised by KSE himself. In the 1950’s and 1960’ KSE had a handful of these made in bronze. Although they are a medium quality bronze cast of post war designed Nuremberg eagle they lack many fine details of the original Third Reich period eagles and were not cast in the same foundries as the original eagles.
  2. Outright fake, re-casts examples of the original Third Reich period KSE Nuremberg eagles.
  3. Fake or re-cast examples of the Post was re-creations mentioned above. It may be difficult to believe, but even the post war ‘estate cast’ re-creations have been recast again as outright fakes. Many auction house that have sold these fake re-cast ‘estate cast’ eagles have cleverly described them as ‘KSE Style’ eagles to avoid any legal difficulties that may have arisen by selling these poor quality re-cast examples to an unwary buyer.

Example 1 – Post-War Kurt Schmid-Ehmen Nuremberg Eagle 1

Here is an example of a post war re-creation (estate cast) of a KSE Nuremberg eagle that was designed and authorized by KSE himself and cast in the 1950’s/ 1960’s. These are easily identifiable as a post-war examples rather than a pre-war example due to the distinct lack of chest feathers, lack of wreath and beak details and the construction method. Although this example is a medium quality bronze cast of post war designed Nuremberg eagle that lacks many of the fine details of a period example eagles and was not cast in the same foundries as the original eagles, it still displays nicely and has developed an age patina.

Example 2 – Fake Kurt Schmid-Ehmen Nuremberg Eagle 2

This outright fake example is also labelled as a ‘Recreation’ by the same seller as fake Nuremberg Desk Eagle Example No.3 & fake Pabst Desk Eagle Example No.5. Easy to spot due to it’s modern construction in solid bronze, a distinctive chocolate patina and mis-shapen/ mis-formed swastika that is a result of the poor quality re-casting of a post-war ‘Estate-Cast’ example.

Example 3 – Fake Kurt Schmid-Ehmen Nuremberg Eagle 3

Another outright fake/ recast example on a modern base. This one is easily identified as a reproduction/ poor quality re-casting of a post-war ‘Estate-Cast’ example due to extremely poor details, multiple casting flaws and the wreath with the supposed oak-leaves appearing as nothing more than misshapen ‘blobs’. This one was also reportedly sold with a recently applied ‘Luftwaffe’ dedication

Example 4 – Fake Kurt Schmid-Ehmen Nuremberg Eagle 4

Another outright fake/ recast example on a modern base. This one is easily identified as a reproduction/ poor quality re-casting of a post-war ‘Estate-Cast’ example due to extremely poor details and many ugly casting flaws. This poor quality casting was sold with the description clearly stating that it was ‘In the Style of a Kurt Schmid-Ehmen eagle’ to avoid it accidentally being purchased as an original pre-war example or an original post-war ‘Estate-Cast’ example.
